Quanta

Since getting his first set of belt drive Technics turntables at the age of 15, Quanta’s love affair with dance music has seen him develop a niche sound and talent over the last 16 years. From a family of renowned musicians, folk singers and song writers, electronic music was not met with ease but once mesmerised by the likes of Northern Exposure and the beginning of the Global Underground series, his passion was cemented.

Born in Glasgow with its vibrant dance music scene he was educated by the sets and sounds of techno legends SLAM and the likes of Sasha and John Digweed on the dance floor of the legendary ‘The Arches’ which form the roots of the deep and driving sounds that make up what Quanta is today.

Spawning from underground events and insane house parties in his late teens, Quanta was born as a night in 2000 and stands for a unit of power! It was created by four friends and was originally intended for Glasgow’s ‘The Q Club’ but then moved to various nightclubs and events all over Glasgow and Scotland. They put on their First ever boat party in 2001 on the stunning Loch Lomond with Steven McCreery, an event which is still remembered fondly to this day. In 2002 Quanta was listed as third top night in the country by IDJ Mag.

The night evolved into the act in 2004 and this saw Quanta become the pairing of Gordon Grant and Gary Thompson as they were invited to tour Greece two years on the bounce which seen them playing 6 hour sets to 3000 strong crowd beach parties. They set up the night “ON” at the Arches and organised boat parties on the Clyde in conjunction, very similar to the ES set up with the Ministry.

Shying away from mainstream dance music and the run of the mill Djs, Quanta is all about a particular sound and feeling, powerful beats with a sincere edge of house and techno, showing great depth and range from start to climatic end in every set played.

2012 is Gordon’s 4th year playing for Electronic Sessions and in this time we have seen him go from strength to strength to become one of our firm favourites. With ten ES boat parties and countless Ministry of Sound sets under his belt he his delighted to now be one of our Residents and this year is sure to see him thrive and deliver the goods to the dance floor in the way he knows best. We also look forward to some future releases in the pipeline.

“Its not unusual for parties to suffer a drop in intensity after a DJ of Seaman’s calibre exits the stage left, but the pairing of Quanta and Altobelli were as dynamic as they come, working their way through boshing techno and throbbing low slung electro”  Resident Advisor ES 5th Birthday
